Thanks to its high degree of rigidity, the HD heavy-duty construction of the rodless pneumatic linear drive OSP-P from ORIGA can accommodate torques of up to 1400 Nm and loads of up to 1.8 metric tons. This simplifies constructions, especially with projecting grippers. In addition, applications requiring high precision and absorption of torques can be realized particularly inexpensively with these pneumatic linear drives, as demonstrated by the example of an automated workpiece handling system.

The pneumatic linear drive OSP-P from the ORIGA System Plus can be equipped with a real model-HD heavy-duty guide. The HD distinguishes itself by virtue of a 4-row recirculating ball bearing guide, which is designed for heavy loads and precision. Smoothed and hardened steel guide rails ensure accuracy even under particularly high loads in all directions. In this way, ORIGA pneumatic linear drives can also be used at very high torques of up to 1400 Nm and loads up to 1.8 t without additional guides. This reduces the work for designers and thus significantly reduces the costs for the user, as no further separate guides have to be factored in.

The cartridges of the recirculating ball bearing guide are additionally protected by integrated wipers such that these rodless pneumatic cylinders can also be used without any problems in a harsh industrial environment. In the standard design, these pneumatic cylinders are manufactured with variable stroke lengths up to 3700 mm for maximum speeds of up to 5 m/s.

By means of shiftable stops, variable end positions can be set over the entire length. These stops, which are fixed in lateral slots-possess shock absorbers, gently absorb the kinetic energy of the moved loads. In this way, they ensure defined, reproducible end positions for a maximum degree of process safety and positioning accuracy.

Lang Technik GmbH uses these advantages of the pneumatic linear drives for a workpiece handling system for the automatic loading of machining centers. The Eco-Tower system transports machined workpieces to the holding tower and collects the next unmachined workpiece from the holder and places it on the clamping jig of the machine tool. Pneumatic linear drives are used for the horizontal and vertical movements of the feed system. The decision in favor of this drive type in the handling system is based on the need for combining the following with each other:

  • safety in automated operation
  • favorable price-performance ratio
  • robust and simple construction.

In this automated feed system, the pneumatic linear drive OSP-P with the HD heavy-duty guide takes on the key task of being able to position the extending workpiece grippers precisely, even under loads. A further pneumatic standard linear drive moves the entire feed system between adjustable end positions. At the same time, safety-relevant maximum forces can be fixed via the cylinder size and the pressure.
